For more than 25 years, Toronto-based Marquis has built an international reputation for quality classical recordings. In recent years, it has expanded its musical focus and is now becoming a leader in discovering new talent in the jazz and adult contemporary fields. Based in San Diego, Syntax Records was launched by brothers Steve & Tim Trudeau in 1999 while having trouble finding a record label that would take a chance on their quirky hip hop group Sackcloth Fashion. The label would independently sell over 40,000 units of Sackcloth Fashion’s music. Syntax Records’ signature release includes “Hawthorne’s Most Wanted” by indigenous emcee RedCloud featuring multi-platinum artists Kurupt from the Dog Pound & Jayo Felony, reggae legend Eek-a-mouse, Gospel superstar Tonex, and underground favorites like Pigeon John, Def Shepard and Visionaries. In addition to the Syntax Records roster (Sackcloth Fashion, RedCloud, Man of War, DJ Wise, Shane Newville, MotionPlus and Kaboose) the label is working on releasing key recordings with outside labels such as Nureau Ink, LLC owned and operated by Tonex.
Latchkey Recordings is an eclectic NYC-based record label founded in 2006 by Entertainment Attorney Mark Schwartz and A&R/Producer Kether Gallu-Badat. Latchkey's vision is one of independence and self-reliance and supports eclectic, multi-genre music. The label’s mission is to help create and ride a trend toward breaking down the dividing lines between music of different generations and genres. The label’s first release will be a producer-driven album entitled The Most Underrated by legendary Hip-Hop producer Domingo. The album, scheduled for release via KOCH in early 2007, features appearances by Beatnuts, Guru, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, and many more established and up and coming MCs.
Indianola Records was founded In 2001 by John Giddens and Matt Shelton in Valdosta, Georgia. With the release of Evergreen Terrace’s Losing all Hope is Freedom (an ever-growing force in hardcore music) and A Jealousy Issue (original vocalist of poison the well) the label quickly obtained worldwide recognition. Indianola Records’ ability to remain on the cutting edge of hardcore metal and indie music has put them in a position to be one step ahead of the market by always predicting the next big thing while leaving the major labels to play catch up. Odd Project’s new album Lover’s Fighter’s Sinner’s Saint’s is slated for the first quarter of 2007 and will be the first new release from the label via KOCH Entertainment Distribution.
