KOCH Expands Indie-Rock Roster With New Label Deals
(Port Washington, New York) -- August 21, 2003-- KOCH Entertainment Distribution, the leading independent distributor of music, video and DVD, announced today that it has signed four separate and exclusive distribution deals with indie-rock labels Lizard King, Uninhibited, Long Live Crime and Finger Records. Under these new agreements, KOCH will distribute all catalog and forthcoming releases from each label in North America. KOCH has formed an impressive roster of indie-rock labels that includes Epitaph, Hopeless/Sub City, SST and Gearhead Records and plans to build on this success with a strong release lineup from its latest signings.
Lizard King Records is a new UK-based indie-rock label that was formed by music industry veterans Martin Heath and Dominic Hardisty. With US headquarters based in New York, the label has signed bands from the UK, US and Sweden and plans to release 3-5 new acts each year. Its debut release via KOCH will be a self-titled album from Detroit punk rockers, The Go, on Oct. 7th. Lizard King’s mission is to identify, break and nurture talented new artists with pop sensibilities.
“Lizard King US is thrilled about our newfound partnership with KOCH Entertainment Distribution. KOCH has exemplified a passion for distribution and artist development and their track record is unquestionable,” says Martin Heath, President of Lizard King Records.
Uninhibited Records, part of the Uninhibited Entertainment Group, is a New York-based label founded by Jonathan First that is dedicated to releasing cutting-edge rock product with strong commercial appeal. The label had a joint venture with MCA Records prior to the merging of MCA into Geffen/Interscope. Titles currently available through KOCH include “The Day the World Awoke” by Marcus Eaton and the Lobby, and “Nothing Wrong” by Born Into Kaos. Uninhibited anticipates releasing 4 to 6 projects per year.
“I am so happy to be back with KOCH Entertainment Distribution. Michael Koch, Michael Rosenberg, Rob Scarcello and the entire team at KOCH have proven that they are the best at what they do, which we will surely benefit from,” says Jonathan First, Founder and President of Uninhibited Records.
Long Live Crime is an LA-based label that was formed a year ago. The label’s debut releases via KOCH will be the Polar Bear record that Eric Avery (formerly of Jane’s Addiction) made a couple of years ago and “Prohibido” by El Centro, both scheduled for release on November 25th. Forthcoming releases for early 2004 also include Bon Harris (formerly of Nitzer Ebb) and
his new band Maven, the new record from Lucky Loser, which is fronted by former Porno for Pyros guitar player Peter DiStefano, and a special Long Live Crime project fronted by famed artist Ray Pettibon.
“We are very excited to be a part of the KOCH family. They have a great team and they understand the needs of a growing label. We are looking forward to a prosperous future with them,” comments Susan Ferris, Partner of Long Live Crime.
Finger Records was launched six years ago and is based in Santa Ana, California as the sister label of Long Live Crime. They have always concentrated on Punk – both established and emerging acts. Some bands will be co-released with Long Live Crime and will include the El Centro CD and the Surf Riders for Peace DVD featuring Pennywise, DI, & U.S. Bombs. Finger will also be releasing the El Nada Meets Electric Frankenstein CD that was co-produced by Greg Hetson of Bad Religion, the second album by Unit F, a live DVD from the Skulls, a Shattered Faith re-issue and an EP from new band the Broken Bottles.
“Finger is excited to be distributed by KOCH alongside our peers SST, Epitaph and Hopeless. It is great to see that KOCH is as committed as we are to allowing the punk movement to remain strong and growing,” says Mel Schantz, President of Finger Records.
Michael Rosenberg, President of KOCH Entertainment Distribution adds, “With the addition of these four superb labels to our existing rock labels, KOCH has now established itself as a major player in the indie rock world. We look forward to working with all of our rock and punk labels to keep independent music rocking.”
